Football falls to Marian

Washington walked into Marian’s stadium on Friday night knowing exactly what kind of team the Knights are — disciplined, physical, and built to control every inch of the field. And from the opening whistle, Marian played like a program that’s been sharpening its identity for years. But here’s the truth that matters for Washington: even in a 46–0 loss, the boys kept showing up. They kept lining up. They kept playing snaps that most teams would mentally check out of. That’s character, not scoreboard. The Knights struck early with long, methodical drives that drained clock and stacked points. Their defense played fast downhill, closing gaps before Washington could build momentum. Every time the Panthers tried to spark something — a tough run, a quick pass, a defensive stand — Marian answered with pressure and execution. Still, Washington’s sideline never folded. Helmets stayed on. Energy stayed up. Coaches kept teaching. Players kept responding. That’s the part people don’t see when they only look at the score. This group is young, but they’re learning how to compete in real varsity environments — loud crowds, hostile fields, and opponents who don’t give you anything for free. These games build toughness that doesn’t show up in the box score yet, but it will. Washington walks away from Marian with bruises, lessons, and another week of growth ahead. And they’ll be back on Monday, ready to work, ready to improve, and ready to keep building the identity they want. The scoreboard said 46–0. The effort said something different.
